Nancy Breth
Nancy O’Neill Breth teaches piano in Washington DC. As a
faculty member of Washington’s Levine School of Music for
25 years, she taught chamber music, piano and pedagogy,
and chaired Levine’s chamber music program. Her major
teachers include Margaret Saunders Ott and Gyorgy Sebok in
piano, Rudolf Kolish, Josef Gingold, and Janos Starker in
chamber music.
Breth students are frequent laureates in area, state and
national competitions, including top levels of the MTNA and
Fischoff Competitions. Several have appeared on NPR’s
“From the Top”, and three of her duet teams were national
winners of MTNA’s Senior Piano Duet competition. A number
of state MTA’s have engaged Nancy as clinician, and she will
present for the third time at MTNA’s national conference this
coming spring.
Nancy is on the faculty of the Kinhaven Adult Piano
Workshop in Weston, Vermont, an annual event featuring
music for piano four hands.
Breth publications on practicing are well known
internationally. Practicing the Piano; The Piano Student's
Guide to Effective Practicing; and Parent’s Guide to Effective
Practicing are published by Hal Leonard Corp.
