Welcome to the Brass Sonata Class!

We invite you to prepare two pieces; one piece of your choice that best represents your ability and artistry, AND the pre-selected sonata for your respective instrument. (see selections below.)

This class is for 11th and 12th Graders only.

Participants in this section must register for both BR9A (Personal Choice Solo) and BR9B (Required Repertoire).

Note: These classes will be competing for a medal AND the Adjudicators Choice Award (Performance in Festival Highlights Concert).

The winner will be invited to play in the Festival Highlights Concert, May 19th, 2023, at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox. If the winner of the class is unable to perform in the concert, it may be offered to a qualified alternate as determined by the adjudicator.

The winner, with a grade of 97 or above, will receive a medal and must play the required piece at the Festival Highlights Concert, May 19th, 2023.

Adjudicator Choice participants may not enter the Young Artist Class in this Division in the same year.

  • Trumpet – Sonata for Bb Trumpet, 1st movement, Kent Kennan
  • Horn – Sonata for Horn in F, Opus 17, 1st movement, Beethoven
  • Trombone – Sonata in F-Major, complete, Marcelllo
  • Euphonium – Fantasia, Gordon Jacob
  • Tuba – Sonata 1st movement, Beversdorf, Southern

Time Limit: 15 minutes
