New Classes and Experiences for Aspiring Composers:

The Composition Division, adjudicated in its inaugural year by renowned composer and MusicFest Northwest alumnus Phil Aaberg, will introduce a variety of new classes and experiences designed to inspire and nurture budding composers and music creators of all age and experience levels. These offerings include:

  • Creative Musicians Introductory Class: Musicians of all ages are invited to perform their own original compositions, songs, and improvisations in a supportive and non-competitive setting, receiving feedback from our distinguished resident composer.
  • Composition Workshop Masterclasses: These masterclasses will provide hands-on guidance and insights into the craft of composition, from initial ideas to finished works.
  • Improvisation Workshop Masterclasses:  These workshops will offer an interactive and in-depth exploration of creative processes and free improvisation.
  • Original Composition Classes: Composers will share scores of their original compositions and receive rankings and feedback from our distinguished resident composer.
  • Young Artist Competition: Composers aged 17-30 compete for the chance to be commissioned to write a new work for a premier Spokane-based chamber group.
